No dia 26 de setembro, a ex-aluna do Colégio Luso-Francês, Francisca Martins, deslocou-se a Bruxelas, a convite da Comissão Europeia, para participar num debate sobre as Alterações Climáticas.
Integrado nos “European Research and Innovation Days”, a Francisca fez a sua intervenção no painel “Young, Innovative, Together for the Climate”, juntamente com outros jovens investigadores que, à semelhança da Francisca, do Eduardo Nogueira e do Gabriel Silva, também ex-alunos do CLF, se destacaram em Concursos de Ciência, enquanto alunos pré-universitários.
“Young people are curious, inventive, mobile and well-connected and thus natural conveyors of new ideas and innovations…we will explore how their potential can be further mobilised to help shape the transition to a sustainable and climate-friendly society and economy.”: com este mote, a Francisca, dois alunos do Lycée Français Jean Monnet, em Bruxelas, e Max VON WOLFF, ex-concorrente do EUCYS – European Union Contest for Young Scientists -, partilharam as suas ideias sobre sustentabilidade com Mohamed RIDOUANI, Mayor da cidade de Leuven (Bélgica), Clara DE LA TORRE, Deputy Director-General para a Ação Climática e Peter DRÖLL, Deputy Director-General for Research & Innovation, ambos da Comissão Europeia.
O convite endereçado à Francisca resulta da aventura iniciada em MIP, no Colégio Luso-Francês, da qual resultou o brilhante projeto SHealS – Sea Heals Soil – cujas repercussões estão bem sistematizadas na sua biografia: “1st place at 7.ª Feira de Ciências Hands-on Science, in Vila Real; 2nd place and Participation at the 29th European Union Contest for Young Scientists at 25º Concurso Jovens Cientistas e Investigadores, in Porto; 2nd place at FCT Nova Challenge, in Lisbon; Special Donated Prize: Participation at Intel ISEF 2018 at EUCYS 2017, in Tallinn and; 2nd place in Microbiology at Intel ISEF 2018, in Pittsburgh. In addition, they presented this project on the 14th International Conference on Hands-on Science, in Braga, and at the Encontro com a Ciência e Tecnologia em Portugal: Ciência 2018, in Lisbon.”
As competências desenvolvidas em projeto são para vida e o percurso da Francisca têm-no evidenciado na perfeição.
“We have the science, we have the techology that we need and we have the demand from society in particular from the youngsters. There is nothing else that we need; we just have to move forward and be leaders” [Clara de la Torre].
